The Annuals
The first Rupert annual was printed in 1936. During the war years and until 1949 the Rupert annuals' covers were made from paper, as there was no board available. It was not until 1950 that the first hardback edition since before the war was published.
Alfred Bestall stopped drawing the daily Rupert in 1965. There were reprints of all the stories until 1970, when another artist took over the illustrations and broke the tradition of the brown-faced Rupert on the cover; replacing it was a white-faced Rupert.
Rupert annual facsimiles were produced for each year sratring with 1936 except for; 1946, 1947, 1954, 1956, 1960, 1961, 1962 and 1964. These were thought to contain politically incorrect content.
NB: I am a Rupert fan and NOT able to value annuals. There are some price guides available out there, namely; The Rupert Bear Price Guide and the Hamer Comic Annual Price Guide.
